8/6/10 BATTLE CONDITIONED @ 2631 Gallery
Founded in 2005, this is the seventh Beware All Stylebiters group show. Beware All Stylebiters is a crew of talented artists that collaborate on different themes, artworks, and shows. "Battle Conditioned" is a collection of head-to-head collaborations between two artists on individual artworks. Each artist involved first turns in a half-finished piece of art. That piece is then photographed, and then given to another artist to finish. The challenge lies in the burden of completing another artists work, which may be of a contrasting style, or a piece even becoming a collaboration by two artists who have never met. Each finished work will be exhibited with a photograph of the piece before the exchange between artists and resulting collaboration.
This is a free event with refreshments provided and live music by DJ Sure and Forest of Luxury
Opening Friday, August 6th, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

5/22/10 STATUS UPDATE @ Paragraph Gallery
23 E. 12th St. 1:00 - 3:30 PM
Ron Megee, Rita Brinkerhoff and Gina Kaufmann will be standing on soap boxes, shouting real Facebook status updates onto the street to greet visitors. By adapting online behavior to a physical space, visitors will get to see the humor, loneliness and occasional beauty of broadcasting unrelated sentiments into a shared void. Concluding this performance, Pitch Managing Editor Scott Wilson will speak -- with his signature brand of incisive, analytical, self-deprecating humor -- about how people behave differently in the dark.
This is part of an Urban Culture Project group art show titled Community + Loneliness, curated by the brilliant Angela Lopez. Glenn North, Poet-in-Residence at the American Jazz Museum, will be assembling some performers to respond to this theme as well.
